Testimonials
“As I read this book, it was as if I became a sojourner with Ron, not only as a companion on the Camino, but to deeper places within my own heart. This book is an honest, endearing, and sometimes painful account of walking a spiritual path of healing, which focuses on becoming rather than arriving.” ~ Lora Lightfoot, Speaker, Life Coach and Church Consultant
"The Good Way took me on a journey of heart and soul. Ron has a gift for finding the hidden wisdom in life’s struggles. He is open and honest with his heartache and was able to turn that into a new walk of life. In reading this book I felt moved to make changes in my own path to forgive and love easier and to find rest in my soul." ~ Mark Holmes, Vice President, Caleb's Heart Ministry
“This is a story of a surrendered heart in the hands of a loving and faithful God. I was humbled, challenged and encouraged by Ron’s willingness to allow the hard and painful places of life to expose his own heart. His journey has inspired me to be less fearful and more open to how God redeems all things to reveal and set me free from that which holds my heart in bondage.” ~ Susie Overton, Board Member, Rooted Soul Ministries
“Ron’s story will show you that, even in the midst of great pain, there is healing, renewal, and victory. The Good Way is an inspirational read about the healing effects of the Holy Spirit, friends and fellow sojourners along the Camino de Santiago. It will lead you to the healing place you’re looking for." ~ Denise Miller Holmes, Director, Words for the Journey Christian Writers Guild
Description
Standing at a crossroads born out of the hurt inflected by those closest to him and the loss of his most significant community, Ron Ottenad was seeking to discern which way to turn. He could give into the temptation to choose the path of security, control, and self-preservation, or he could risk accepting an invitation to walk a different road, a road that would require humility, submission, forgiveness and trust. A road which also promised to take him somewhere far more life-giving than his own striving could ever lead.
THE GOOD WAY is the story of the choice he made and how walking the Camino de Santiago gave voice to the internal/spiritual journey he traveled as he willingly walked an old road in search of a new way to live. Ron takes us with him on this journey, allowing us to experience the Camino and glean from the wisdom discovered as he walked this ancient path. The lessons he learns are timeless, life giving, and will be of help as you come upon your own crossroads. After reading Ron’s story, you will find hope for healing your own wounded heart.
THE GOOD WAY Walking an Old Road to a New Life edition by Ronald Ottenad Religion Spirituality eBooks
I read the reviews and the back cover and it sounded like a familiar story, so I bought two copies. One for me and one for a friend. I began reading it the day it arrived at my door. By the end of the 3rd chapter, I knew my friend needed this book. I didn't want to put it down. The personal journey shared exposes the author to many vulnerable moments. I laughed with him sometimes and I cried at others. I truly felt I was right there experiencing it every step of the way. Although the circumstances of his are not the same as mine, the wounds left are all too familiar. His journey and the lessons learned along the way will give hope to anyone struggling to move forward after a hurtful experience. This is more than a book; it's a road map for life, the way Our Creator intended it. If you are not changed in some way by the end; then you just may need to dig deeper into your soul. I highly recommend The Good Way.Product details

THE GOOD WAY Walking an Old Road to a New Life edition by Ronald Ottenad Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this book . The author was so honest about his joys and his hardships on the Camino .
Reading is a passion of mine, and this read is certainly at the top!! In a time when walking your faith is almost nonexistent, this author finds the way. Thank you for allowing us to travel along with you. Your courage, joy, peace, patience and faithfulness are infectious. God bless you!
The Good Way is an exceptional book about the Pilgrimage of the Camino and of Life. Ron walks the Good Way as he reflects on God's Path through hard times in ministry and through northern Spain. As he puts one foot in front of the other, Ron realizes he has a choice with every step. This book is a great testimony of a journey through pain to healing. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to Walk life the Good Way or walk the Camino. Ron lite a fire in me to become a sojourner of the Camino! I have now bought 6 books and given them away to those who are going through difficult times, hoping to encourage in the good way!

Considering walking the Camino? You'll love this book! Are you in a place of hurt and loss? You will be encouraged by this book! Are you at a crossroads in your faith? You will cherish this book!! Ron is a visual writer and the pictures he paints of the Camino are stunning and truly made me want to walk. His ability to communicate the heart of God makes me want to read, reread, underline and write myself notes to remember in the margins. This is a humble telling of the hard things in life and power and beauty of a God who redeems.

I am impressed by the depth of understanding and spiritual awareness presented in this account of walking the Camino. The Good Way gives valuable insight into hurt and loss, healing and relationships in a natural and effortless style. It is more than a story about walking 500 miles, it is an invitation to go deeper into your own heart. I enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who is struggling with loss or disappointment. There are no spins or half-truths here, just an invitation to walk the good way.
Having walked the Camino, a few years before the author, and having starting in Le Puy-en-Velay France, I still find myself processing my own experience. This book has helped me a lot in that it expanded the spiritual context, explained for me, something I had taken away from the Camino and have been, fitfully, acting in my own life. That's us the idea of waiting on God, living in God's rest, basically surrendering to and trusting in Him.
We are generally raised to be proud, self sufficient, wanting to control. This is a selfish, potentially hugely damaging to others, way of being. Walking the Camino can be a way to discover some of the universal spiritual truths of life, humbling us and hopefully making us determined to walk the Good Way asking for God's grace, surrendering our lives to Him, becoming patient, and kind and empathic and caring of others.
Another huge theme in the book is the idea of 'community' and how important this is and how life changing, but challenging, it can be putting it into practice in our daily lives once away from the Camino
Walking the Camino changed and illuminated/s and my life. I was unconscious now beginning to see.
Excellent book and Ultrëia😊
I very much enjoyed "The Good Way Walking an Old Road to a New Life", which chronicles the personal account of the author's journey along Spain's legendary Camino de Santiago. If you have ever seen the Martin Sheen movie "The Way" (2010), you'll love this literary first-cousin. As someone who has always wanted to walk the Santiago, Ron Ottenad's vivid descriptions allowed me to vicariously journey with him along the famous route. The book not only relays the physical demands of the arduous journey itself, but the deep friendships he cultivated along the way; relationships which give the story its greatest power. The book also builds parallels with past disappointments in the author's life which demonstrate a deep vulnerability on his part, and to which the reader can relate. I enjoyed the non-linear manner of the book's storytelling, occasionally leaving the Camino and flashing-back to stories that gave context, meaning and power to the walk itself. In reading Ottenad's book, I was led to slow down, contemplate life more deeply, and have my soul enriched. I highly recommend this book.
