Here in the dark, O heart; Alone with the enduring Earth, and Night, And Silence, and the warm strange smell of clover; Clear-visioned, though it break you; far apart From the dead best, the dear and old delight; Throw down your dreams of immortality, O faithful, O foolish lover! Here's peace for you, and surety; here the one Wisdom — the truth! — "All day the good glad sun Showers love and labour on you, wine and song; The greenwood laughs, the wind blows, all day long Till night." And night ends all things.

While there are later biographies of Rupert Brooke which give greater insight into his life and his poetry, it was interesting to read the first biography ever written about this tragic young man. Someone who loved life, the classics and obviously poetry, was taken far too soon and you are left saddened by his death, glad that we have the works produced in that short lifetime, and wondering what he could have achieved with his own writing if he had not lost his life so young.Product details

The Collected Poems of Rupert Brooke Rupert Brooke 9781523768103 Books Reviews
I love Rupert Brooke's work, and I was excited to see a "professionally designed" edition available for the , but to call this professionally designed is an affront to professionals, and design. Some poems ("The Great Lover", among others) have lost all their line breaks; others have weird indentation problems. The headings are reproduced in the same font as the poems themselves.Disastrously, in a collection of poems, the table of contents isn't even linked; it's just a long, plain-text list.
None of these problems are present in even the Gutenberg edition of this same collection, and since that can be sent to one's for free I see no reason to make the same mistake I did. Find a better collection.
I was delighted when I discovered a complete collection of Rupert Brooke poetry. I fell in love with this poet as a teenager, and I still marvel at the beauty of the passages.
Wonderful collection. Reflects the mindset of that time versus the current inconsistencies and lack of unity by the "good guys"nations.
The poems are Brooke. Enough said, except the type is bigger than I've ever seen and makes for easier, more pleasant reading. The info about Brooke and his poems, the tributes (both prose and poetry) by his friends and contemporaries are fascinating and at least one of the paeans (by Phillpotts) is as beautiful I thought as anything Brooke himself wrote. The book is oversized, beautifully produced and very expensive. Bought it for a friend, liked it so much I bought one for myself. Now I have 3 editions of Brooke! Phillpotts' poem by the way so impressed me that I looked for a collection of him, all oop or priced beyond my reach, maybe he's more accessible in the UK, apparently he lived a very long time.
The kindle format removes the physical pleasure of handling a book in which poetry has been well presented, but the cost trade off probabaly makes it worthwhile. I confess I didn't know much about Rubert Brooke beyond the War Poems and Grantchester ... so this was an eye-opener. I'm not really sure what the "unexpurgated" tag is all about. This collection will be one I return to, time and again.
it is wonderful.. to find a first edition 1915..
I bought this because he was suppose to be similar to Sara Teasdale. Personally, I don't see it.
