I'm being generous with three stars. And I really don't like to give negative reviews.

I've never wanted to smack some sense into someone as much as I wanted with this MC. She was beyond stupid and naive. I know there are real women who react very differently to extreme situations, but to not react at all? All because her kidnapper was handsome??? This story was utterly disappointing. I can understand Stockholm Syndrome. It can be done well. I was hoping for so much better. But this girl decided to completely look past the fact that these people wanted to kill her all because the guy was attractive. I mean absolutely no reaction other than she loved him too much to believe it. It was ridiculous. I couldn't relate in the tiniest way.

The characters were flat and I didn't see the slightest reason she should be in love. I cry easily but there was no emotion in the story. It wasn't very well written. It did more telling than showing. There were more instances of "was" than I had breath, and there were a lot of errors.

I won't give away the ending but even that fell flat and was unbelievable. Overall, the story was far-reaching, and unbelievable. I won't be reading more.

I finished this book yesterday but I had to sit on the review for a bit because I'm finding it hard to determine exactly how I feel about this book. I've decided it's somewhere between liking it and feeling that it was just okay.

I thought the premise was excellent and I was really excited to read the book, however, I found the overall execution of the story somewhat lacking. This book had suspense and definitely brought surprises, but frankly, I was bored. It was very ambitious of the author to make Cameron into the biggest drug lord/gang leader in all of the US, and I have to admit when they were talking about "offshore" bank accounts, I chuckled a bit at the ridiculousness of it. Cameron's character portrayal just didn't match up to that level of drama; I didn't think of him as a tough guy at all. To be believable, I think he needed to be a bit more alpha, a bit more aggressive.

As for the romance in the book, I felt the connection between Cameron and Emily in the beginning, but when over half of the book had gone by without even a kiss, much of the intensity was lost. Cameron was so standoffish and chaste with Emily, looking away when she undressed, pulling away when she kissed him. It was hard to connect him to the tough drug lord/gang leader that he was supposed to be. I felt like there needed to be more to their relationship before they started proclaiming their love for one another. It's not that I didn't believe they could have those feelings, it's just that the build up to those feelings was missing.

I am a bit befuddled by all the high praise this novel is receiving. Did they read the same book as me?
After I saw all the positive comments for Crow`s Row, I was excited to read the book. I can only assume, after reading the novel, that most of the reviewers were under 21.

I have no fault with the writing or story premise, but the juvenile nature of the "romance" and simplistic view of the life of a drug lord, described at one point as one of the most powerful in the country, is almost laughable.

Here we have a 26 year old drug lord who is barely able to make eye contact with the woman he supposedly loves and blushes repeatedly.

While motorcycle romances are almost too gritty in their reality (how could anyone love a man this bad), the characters in this are overly sanitized. Even the love scene has been washed over.

I finished the book, but won`t bother finding out what happens in the sequel.
I read NA/YA every now and then because sometimes (think Ker Dukey) the great underlying plot can really carry a story. I plodded through this slow moving romance because I wanted to see how Cameron resolved his internal conflict. I agree with most of the critical reviews - it started off in an OK way - some action and intrigue - but, it took more than 50% of the book to have the first kiss, and then another long time until they have sex (fade to black, no smexy build up - way too chaste for this genre). The bad guy stuff is mostly behind the scenes, so was kind of hard to engage it. The highly contrived relationship tension - the leader can't have any close personal relationships because those can be used against you - just didn't cut it for me. If El Chapo can successfully run a cartel and have a family, then Cameron - as rich and powerful as he was depicted - could certainly have found a way to have one.

It was really hard to envision Cameron as a bada$$ drug lord when Emmy kept referring to him as "the boy" (despite the fact that he is 26) and in the scene where Emmy meets Pops, it makes him seem like he was Bill's younger side kick, when in fact they were in same class in high school. Emmy's lack of self confidence because she's a redhead and thin was hard to believe. The lack of sexual tension between the H and h was also notable and extremely juvenile.
